What is a "Claimable Reward"? How is it different from a Reward?
A claimable reward is activated only when a customer explicitly claims it in Profile Portal. This is different from a standard Reward in that these Rewards are automatically generated as customers meet predetermined reward logic and definitions, for example, a customer creates a profile, a welcome reward is generated on the customer’s profile which may then notify them via email. The customer then has up until their reward’s individual expiry date to redeem it in-store or online. Read about standard Omneo Rewards here.
Standard Rewards in Omneo are generated through:
- A Reward Definition which is first configured, and logic is set in Omneo CX Manager to issue individual instances of that reward definition to individual customer profiles
or
- Support Staff apply an ad hoc Reward directly to a customers profile through CX Manager or the Support Portal.
Claimable Rewards are generated when:
- A Reward Definition is configured and has "can be assigned" enabled, and a handle of this definition is set
and
- Brands then generate their own URLs for distribution by updating the specific link format back to Profile Portal with reward details:
Claimable rewards can be claimed via two flows:
1) If profile ID is known
When profile ID is known then the claimable reward can be sent directly to the customer. This may be done via email, push, SMS or via a button or other Call To Action shown to a logged-in customer on a brand’s website.
Links to the reward claim flow can be built with the following URL
https://my.[your-brand].com/claim/reward?p=[profileID]&r=[reward-handle]
The customer’s profileID is the native Omneo profile ID and should be available to your website experience or comms platform as a merge variable.
With an Omneo-supported comms platform, profile data will be synced between the two systems. This will always include the Omneo Profile ID, which we’ll use in the following step.
To create a new claim reward campaign, you’ll just need the handle for your new reward and the merge tag for profile id used by your comms platform. Using these two details, we can construct a claim reward url with Profile Portal hosting the reward landing page.
Now that we have the format, the reward handle can be found in Omneo Manager in Configuration > Rewards then by clicking on your reward and copying the handle field near the top of the page.
Then using your comms platform, you can construct your claim URL by replacing [handle] with the new reward handle and profile_id with the Omneo Profile ID merge field. For example, Mailchimp would use the following format:
https://my.brand.com/claim/reward?p=*|ID|*&r=summer-reward
2) If profile ID is not known (Coming Soon)
Omneo is currently developing a feature that will allow brands to make a claimable reward available to unknown profile IDs. E.g. a link in a social post, advertisement, or non-logged in web user.
https://my.[your-brand].com/claim/reward?r=[reward-handle]
In the case, where the user is not known, this link will initiate a sign in or sign-up flow prior to the claim reward flow.
How does "Claim Reward" work?
Once a customer clicks on this URL (whatever the environment) they will be directed to Profile Portal and will see a screen like the below:
This action creates an instance of the Reward for this customer that can then be redeemed like any other reward. Depending on the Reward Definition the reward may have a long or short expiry date and may be extendable. Issue and Expiry reminder communications can still be set up like all other standard Reward Definitions using Targets linked to your comms platform.
Why use the "Claim Reward"?
Claim Reward may be employed for a variety of use cases, including:
Campaigns - You can use "Claim Reward" when you want to generate a one-off reward type for a campaign, and no ongoing logic is required. The 'Claim Reward' function allows brands to avoid the “spay-and-pray” approach of a generic coupon or discount code and means that brand can curate and capture who the reward is sent to and redeemed by.
Third-party Promotions - If you're a brand that curates other brands in your stores, you might like to offer third-party brands the "Claim Reward" feature to help drive uptake of that brand and provide performance reports to them.
Reduce Rewards on Issue - For some brands, issuing rewards can be a financial liability. By employing "Claim Reward," businesses have a mechanism from which to reduce the liability of Rewards without reducing their effectiveness.
Minimise wastage, maximise engagement - 'Claim Reward' encourages customers to actively elect their interest in getting their incentives, increasing their likelihood of shopping and redeeming within the reward period. The endowed progress effect suggests that if customers feel like they are given a “head start” on earning their rewards are more likely to continue to participate in the redemption of it.
If you don’t want to issue dollar rewards to people, but you are interested in the ‘claim’ mechanic in general, read about the Claim Benefits feature which works in a similar way but also has additional options to provide even more flexibility in your personalised incentives.
